“To play the game is great…
To win the game is greater…
But to love the game is the greatest of all.”

Its still January, Happy New Year

The basketball new year has rocked up and caught a few of us by surprise, and the re-start for many hasn’t been as smooth as you would hope.

Postponements have been a real problem this year and the fixture congestion is going to catch up eventually, I already know some of my UWE teams will have three games in a week, when this happens shock results happen and could decide league titles. Unless you are Stroud who in the 2002/3 season on the last day of the season played Bristol Uni and UWE straight after each other, and had to win both to win the league (again) and subsequently did.

Last night saw the semi-finals of the Women’s Local league cup new team Pirates vs Olympiad and last year’s final Thunder vs UWE. Both games were one-sided affairs, but it creates the opportunity for a great final if both teams can stay healthy. Olympiad vs Thunder – 8th May.

Men’s local league is in the middle of the Trophy part of the season and this creates some really exciting games, normally going into overtime or decided by the odd point. This competition has also produced some amazing individual performances a prime example is Ken Nottage of Stroud who scored I think it was 94 points in a game to secure his team the win. If you can go and watch these games

The Bristol Men’s National League team in its in-augural season continues to have more ups and downs than your average roller-coaster – catch up with the latest results under the national league section. The Bristol junior organization continues to excel at all levels, with Championships still up for grabs. Next season will be even more interesting as competition for places increases as more and more youngsters come out wanting to play.
